During this unit I've learned a lot. I used to think that England and the Colonies just broke apart peacefully, but in turn I found out this isn't so. The relationship between Great Britan and America was not equal. The Americas fought they were being taxed with out their consent and soon started to rebel. Great Britan just started fighting back harder adding more taxes, sending more troops, and closing down their ports. All in all the relationship wasn't pretty. I thought the relationship just ended naturally but there were a lot of battles and a lot of deaths. I think the thing I've learned most from this unit was how our country came to be and how people solved their problems back then as opposed to now.

During this unit I have learned what a government really is. Before this year, I thought that a government could give and take away the rights of it's people, just like laws. But, the Declaration of Independence stated that a government is only established to protect the rights that their "creator" gave them. King George III and Parliament were doing the exact opposite. Instead of dealing with what they thought was rebellion, King George III and Parliament were taxing the colonies without their consent, sending in troops from Great Britain, and barracading the entrance to their source of supplies. When I looked back at the situation that the colonies went through and how they evolved, I also noticed how we currently use the mistakes made in history to grow and prevent those mistakes from occuring again.

I enjoyed this. I was having trouble with my Social Studies assignment. I spoke with my close personal friend Lois van de Minnen and she directed me to this website. This blog even helps people learning U.S. history in Switzerland. Thank you :)

I learned that the second continental congress met in Philadelphia May, 1775. While the Continental Congress was going on, a battle accured at Bunker Hill outside Boston and in the end of that battle Britain took over Bunker hill. Also still in the second meeting (1776) the Continental Congress declared independence from Britain.
